This issue of JESCEE (Vol. 2 No. 2, 2023) presents diverse research focusing on optimizing industrial operations, enhancing energy system reliability, and exploring advancements in materials and process engineering. Key studies include:

  • Inventory Management for Optical Retail: Application of time series forecasting (specifically the cyclical trend model) to manage eyeglass lens inventory in an optical store, determining optimal safety stock and reorder points to improve product availability and customer satisfaction.
  • Power Generation Reliability (Emergency Systems): Analysis of the reliability and availability of 3-phase generator sets used as emergency backup power at PT. Intracawood Manufacturing, demonstrating high reliability (99%) based on operational data.
  • Power Generation Reliability (PLTMG): Evaluation of the PLTMG system reliability at PT Pertamina EP Bunyu using the Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) index, finding the system to be highly reliable (LOLP of 0.00005579646%) compared to industry standards.
  • Advanced Material Synthesis (Silica Aerogel): Investigation into the synthesis of transparent and thermally stable silica aerogel from sodium silicate via ambient pressure drying, highlighting the performance of PDMS as a modifying agent for achieving low density and stability up to 400°C.
  • Clean Energy Source Selection: Implementation of AHP and Whale Optimization Algorithm to select and optimize the best clean energy sources.
  • Electrical Distribution System Analysis: Examination of the reliability of a 20kV distribution system using Root Cause Problem Solving methods.
  • Service Operations Analysis: A study applying queuing theory to analyze patient registration counters at a hospital.
  • Renewable Energy Application: Simulation of a single-phase induction machine powered by photovoltaics for water pump systems.
  • Natural Product Extraction: Research on extracting flavonoid content from banana peels using Ultrasound Assisted Extraction and evaluating the extract's SPF value.

This volume contributes valuable insights and practical methodologies for enhancing efficiency, reliability, and innovation across supply chain, energy, and process engineering domains.
